Hunter Olympics 2nd and 3rd Grade Edition

Well, we wrapped up the 2009 version of the Hunter Olympics today.  The rain held off, the students and teachers were all amped up for the event, and the runners took off!!!!  With rain pending, we jostled with times and even cancelling the event.  However, we decided to go with it and it was worth all the hassle.

2nd Grade kicked off the Olympics with 6 enthusiastic classes all dressed up and full off cheers, supportive signs, and team colors.  Kudos go to Team Tympkin and Clark’s Stingers for the best outfits.  With some parent help for score keepers, we pushed through all the events in a little over 45 minutes. The competition was fierce, and we saw some great running and tug-o-war battles.  In the end, it was Ms. Durizch’s DJ Dogs that came out victorious and took home the coveted 2nd grade trophy.

3rd grade followed on the brink of rain and we really pushed through the events and finished just as it started to get ugly outside.  Once again the students were extremely excited about the events, and really gave their best efforts.  There were some great battles for the track tryout events, and the relay races were down to a photo finish!  In the end, Ms. Stice’s Tiger Storm came out victorious with a narrow 2 point win.

Thanks to all the volunteers and teachers that helped run all the events. The Olympics are designed to give the students some good classroom bonding in some friendly and competitive competition, and I think everything went off better than planned.  Due to so much demand, next year we will resume the “Spirit Award” for the class with the best team spirit.  We many also try to run the Olympics earlier in the year.

Next up is the Grade Level DANCE IN! w/ Ms. Castellano and myself which will happen in January.

Track Team Selections will be posted in the gym tomorrow (Thursday). And on the website!
