In the classrooms…The last few weeks have been a complete blur as our students and teachers have been busy in all aspects of the school. Before our spring break we had our school sprit week. After returning from the break, we pulled together as a school community to help some of our families regroup and rebuild after the devastating storms that came through the area. Once again, the Hunter community has pooled its resources to address a civic need. As we move towards the final 30 days of school, students will take end of year universal screening assessments like the dibels oral reading fluency screens, and participate in end of year celebrations and field trips. These activities, when combined, ensure that each student has a rigorous and enriched educational experience.
Last month our professional learning communities reviewed the data from the mid-year benchmark given to all 3rd – 5th grade students in the county. Individual scores were not given for students, but we did get classroom and grade level data. The school’s performance on these benchmark assessments indicated a closing of the achievement gap! Our teachers and students have worked hard to ensure success for all.
Announcements Mission StatementThe School Improvement Team has adopted a new school mission statement:Empowering every student by identifying their gifts and talents through differentiation, electives, cultural arts, and positive behavior that establishes a foundation for successful life-long learners.End of Grade TestingEnd of Grade testing begins in just 2 weeks! Students will take their first test Monday May 16th. Although we want our students to show academic growth through their work on the EOG’s, the test is not meant to add stress to our students. As a matter of fact, the test is not validated to assess the progress of an individual student, but it does give us good data on large groups of students. This is because the test does not assess the entire curriculum so it only gives a snapshot of what students have learned. We want students to come to school prepared to work and ready for instruction every day. During the EOG administration, students should be prepared to show their mastery of the information they have learned. The best preparation for the test is a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast on the day of the tests. End of Year PerformancesThe final performances from our chorus, band, orchestra, and dance troupe all happen during the month of May. Check the important date’s section for dates and times for these concerts. We are proud of our young scholars and look forward to their final performance of the year.
