Welcome Back !

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over and back-to-school is just around the corner. I hope this message finds everyone well rested and ready for another GREAT year of learning.

New Staff Members

We have several new staff members on board that I would like to introduce. Please welcome Brenden Vincent-Band, Awilda Dejesus-Spanish, Jill Hemingway-4th grade, Gwen Hussey-5th grade, Gerald Harvey-2nd grade and Carron Carter-Media. These new Hunter staff members bring years of experience and expertise as well as a genuine appreciation for the GT/AG Basics magnet program.

School Numbers

Growth and Planning limited the number of new magnet students they would allow into Hunter Elementary this year to address a serious overcrowding issue. In just one year, our numbers have dropped to 730 students, down from last year's high of 839 students. Fewer students means easier access to resources and instruction that is tailored to individual student needs.

School Transportation

How to get your child to and from school each day is a concern that is not to be taken lightly. To project an image of conservation, I encourage all parents to use Wake County school bus transportation to and from school. If you must provide carpool transportation for your child, we ask that you get a carpool number for your child. Carpool numbers will be available during Meet and Greet in the cafeteria. Each carpool rider will receive two carpool tags. One for the car and one for their book bag. Please work with your child to help him/her remember his/her carpool number.

New Student Check-in Procedure

Students who arrive to school after the 9:15 bell will have a new system for checking into class. Parents must come into the building to complete this procedure. As you enter the building the parent will go to the computer in the hallway and click on Student Check-In. You will complete the information on the screen to check-in your child. The printer will then print an admittance slip for the student to take to the classroom teacher. For early dismissals from school, the same procedure can be followed by clicking on Student Check-Out.Time spent in direct instruction is the number one determining factor of student success. This system helps us better track which specific students are losing instructional time as a result of tardies and early dismissals. Thank you in advance for helping us continue to focus on learning.
