In the classrooms...

This past week students resumed the elective schedule. Our kindergarten and first grade students are now taking two electives per quarter. First graders can be seen marching through the halls proudly carrying their instrument for Ms. Taylor's Orchestra class. When electives begin our school returns to that buzz that so many of you have mentioned attracted you to Hunter GT Magnet.

In the basic classes students are working on skills that will prepare them for academic success. Report cards are included in the Monday folder which document the progress made by your child. Students who score a level 1 or level 2 in the core academic areas will receive a letter in the report card envelope. If you have questions or concerns about report card grades check the box on the report card folder to request a parent teacher conference.

Thank You to all of the volunteers who came out to help spruce up the school last Saturday.

Announcements

Hunter GT Magnet Elementary School has been named a Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America. Our school will be honored at 28th MSA Conference hosted by the Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa Florida on May 4th. This honor recognizes the commitment and accomplishments of our staff, parents, and students.

Some parents have started going directly to classrooms to check out children. It is our policy that students must be checked out in the front office and the child will be called to the office for dismissal. Also, please pick up children in carpool by 4:00 PM.

In today's Monday folder is information regarding various Application Options within Wake County Public Schools. This sheet explains the process for applying to year-round and magnet schools.

A correction has been made to the End of Grade Testing window. We will test during the May 10 - May 19 testing window.

Tips to help your child!

With the Read-A-Thon in full swing there is no better time to remind parents to set time aside daily for students to read. Students are never too old to have an adult read aloud to them either.
