PBS Rewards
Last week 3-5 students celebrated their good behavior through a PBS Rewards Day! Students who had earned 25 tickets were able to purchase tickets to participate in kickball, board games, and other fun activities. These reward days not only reward students for demonstrating STAR behavior, but they also build a sense of community through the school. Congratulations to all of our students who earned a reward.
EOG's
Now that the last snowflake has fallen, we can begin to prepare for another spring! In grades 3-5, with Spring comes end of grade tests. Several parents have asked how we prepare students to excel on end of grade tests. Since the eog's are nothing more than a test of the curriculum we receive from the state and county, our aim is to do nothing more than do a very good job of teaching the curriculum. In PLT's we ask the four corollary questions; 1) What is it we want students to know? 2) How do we know when they learn it? 3) What do we do when they already know the material 4) What do we do if they don't know the material. These four questions guide the work of grade level PLT's. Students in need of enrichment receive an enriched curriculum and students in need of remediation and intervention are provided with that as well. This laser like focus on learning and teaching ensures growth among all students.
Announcements
We are implementing a new car-pool system. This system will make dismissal more orderly by using a more efficient process. The students will be dismissed according to an assigned car-pool number. Last week we assigned numbers to the students who consistently use car-pool. They practiced sitting according to their numbers in the media center each day. This week we will distribute the car-pool numbers to parents in the car-pool line. You will need to display the number on the right side of your windshield each afternoon. Using the new system allows us to be more accountable for students, which will ensure their safety during dismissal. It also directly aligns to the safety component in our School Improvement Plan. Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this change.
Also, we would like to thank you for your cooperation with all of the new procedures. We have seen you making efforts to check out students before 3:15. We have also seen you remaining in your cars, in the car-pool line, rather than picking up students in hallways or the media center. If you need to walk-in to pick up a child, please enter the media center at the back door by Ms. Hemingway's room.

Tips to help your child!
Help your child find interesting words in stories. Secretly choose a book he knows, write down 5-10 favorite words from the pages, and read the list aloud. Can he guess the book? Talk about why you liked each word and what it means.
