In the classrooms...
Last week superintendent Dr. Burns announced additional deep cuts to the education budget for next year. One way you can assist with these budget cuts is to help us avoid waste. Two weeks ago I sent green stickers home for students to place on their Monday folder if they no longer wanted paper copies of the Principal's Page. If you did not place a sticker on your folder, but have access to the Hunter website to get the newsletter, please inform your child's teacher and help us save money for instructional needs.
The students at Hunter have been busy with many exciting classroom and school-wide activities that nurture various student gifts and talents. We have hosted Bren Bataclan, a visiting artist and Congressman Bob Etheridge spoke with our students about Veteran's Day and Coach Chad hosted another successful Hunter Olympics
Announcements
Over the past few weeks I have been busy with magnet recruiting. It has been a great experience to meet with prospective Hunter parents during the process and telling them the many wonderful traits of our school. But the research says that the top reason most families choose their magnet school is current parent recommendation. When you as parents talk up our school you ensure a steady stream of dedicated and active parents that will keep our program strong and vibrant. I encourage you to continue your recruiting efforts in your communities and neighborhoods.
Education research tells us that the number one factor to determine school success is attendance at school and access to the curriculum. For these reasons I ask that you try to avoid taking your child out of school early unless absolutely necessary.
