In the classrooms…
Despite having a short week of learning, our Hunter students have been busy learning a wide range of topics. Students in kindergarten, first, and second grade are implementing units from the Math Expressions textbook adoption. Students use manipulatives and number charts to solve math word problems. Third and fourth grade students are learning how to read and write numbers and fifth graders are using hands on strategies to balance mathematical equations.
This past Wednesday students in grades 3-5 had the opportunity to turn in tickets to participate in PBS rewards. I enjoyed a friendly game of football with 20 students. Other students participated in kick ball, line dancing, cookie painting, and nail painting. The PBS team is working on a schedule of implementation for our students in first and second grades.
School begins at 9:05 AM this year.

Announcements
Just a reminder that the "Reach for the Stars" fall fund-raiser is underway.  This fundraiser provides critical funding for our classroom and educational needs at Hunter.
Hunter is a special place.  We are committed to providing a differentiated curriculum starting in Kindergarten, a concept not available at other local schools.  We also have an outstanding arts program to stimulate and broaden our students' educational opportunities.  As parents and educators at Hunter, we have the unique opportunity and challenge to specifically meet the needs of all our students, whether they need extra help or are academically gifted.  The fundraiser provides extra funding we need to better achieve this goal through academic enrichment and cultural arts programs.
We hope you will join us in supporting Hunter and Reaching for the Stars this fall.  Look for more information and flyers in your children's Monday folders

 Tips to help your child!
I try to point out in my newsletter how learning takes place in many different ways. One of the most important ways children learn is through shared activities with the family. This weekend take time to play a board game with your child or let them help cook the family meal.
