I. Call to Order
Marla Turlington, PTA President called the meeting to order at 8:40 am
Discussed Budget Revision Meeting, held on 12/11/09
Motion to approve minutes from that meeting by Marla Turlington, seconded by Gina Flynn & Willa Allen
II. Principal's Report, by David Newkirk
Four new promethium boards purchased for the 4th grade, arrived 1/5/10.Were able to buy 2 for the price of 1
Mr. Newkirk requests that 1/23/10 be a day of service in honor of MLK. Mr. Newkirk proposes that parent volunteers help paint the 2nd floor hallways for the 4th-5th graders. He will need approx. 10-12 volunteers.
Carol Wooten was nominated Teacher of the Year for Hunter Elementary. She is currently in Washington, DC being honored for her prestigious award she receives over the summer.
III. Committee Reports
Read-A-Thon, by Sharon Eckard. Read-A-Thon will run from 1/27/10 through 2/9/10. Sharon hopes to increase participation this year by including minutes read in the classroom. Two goals of read-a-thon are (a) to get all children to read, and (b) raise money for the school.
Yearbook, by Aileen Carroll. Yearbook is a 4th and 5th grade elective this year, being taught by Mrs. Parham. Mrs. Parham is looking for parent volunteers to come in bi-weekly during the 8th period elective to help with yearbook planning. The committee still needs help with collecting photos, sales, & distribution.
Boxtops & Labels, by Becky Shermer. Boxtops and labels will start in Late January/Early February and will run for 2 weeks. There will be classroom prizes for the greatest collectors.
Book Exchange - Coming Up. Watch for information on the website or in the PTA page.
School Board Meeting, by Christine Kushner.
IV. New Business
Jenni Johnson, Magnet Coordinator for Hunter, asked for parents to help recruit new families to Hunter by speaking to prospective students and families. She also asked for names of preschools that she might visit as a way to recruit future students. Mrs. Johnson commented on the website, Greatschools.org, and asked that parents visit the website and post a review about Hunter to help spread the "positive" feelings about our school.
Bren Bataclan is unveiling the art work for Hunter on Friday, 1/8/10 at 9:15am. Mr. Bataclan gave a presentation at the meeting. He will be presenting to the children at the in-school assemblies on Thursday afternoon.
Health Night - Coach Chad with be hosting a health night in the spring. PTA may need some volunteers to help.
Study Circles - 6 week course will begin on Wednesday. Please consider serving on this fantastic, exciting program.
Malinda Sink, PTA President elect, is looking for committee chairs and persons to serve on her executive committee for next year. Please let her know if you are interested.
