Welcome all Hunter Families to the 2010-11 school year!
I am Malinda Sink and I am excited about serving as the Hunter Elementary PTA President this year. I hope everyone has had a good summer and I know you and your children are excited about getting the school year started. The PTA Board of Directors has already held one meeting, with another planned for next week. Our meeting was full of energy, ideas and enthusiasm for the many activities the PTA has planned for our students and their families.
When I realized this morning that school starts ONE WEEK from today...I started thinking about how many times as adults, we wish we had a "do over", an opportunity to go back and change something we have done in the past. It occurred to me that each fall is a "do over" for our children. They have the opportunity to start fresh with new teachers, new classmates, new goals, new talents and new challenges before them. Just think...at this point, one week before school begins... EVERY Hunter student is making 3 and 4's, completing all their homework, creating dazzling projects and acting like a good citizen of the world! Through our efforts as parents, mentors, tutors and volunteers we can turn todays score card into a reality throughout the coming year.
The PTA has some wonderful programs planned for this year and you will be hearing more about them through our PTA "robo" phone calls to all the parents, the PTA newsletter and this website. We will be kicking off our annual fall phantom fundraiser, "Reach For The Stars" the second week of September. This year our fund raising efforts will go to support a new initiative at Hunter...TECHNOLOGY IS POWER. We will using PTA dollars to bring more technology into all our classrooms and help all Hunter students develop the skills needed to compete in a 21st Century world!
Our fall Cultural Arts event will be the week of Oct. 15 - 22 when the Chuck Davis African American Dance Ensemble comes to Hunter as our Artists-In-Residence. This will be a busy, interactive, art-fill week!
I look forward to meeting each of you at Meet the Teacher next Monday, August 23rd and at our Open Houses in September.
