Q. At what time should my child be at the bus stop each morning?
A. Students should plan to be standing at the bus stop ten minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival time regardless of weather conditions.

Q. Can my child stay inside the house until the bus arrives at the bus stop each morning?
A. Waiting for students will delay the school bus which may make the bus late for school thus interrupting student learning. Please have your student at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the school bus arrival time. Students should be standing at the bus stop when the bus arrives regardless of weather conditions.

Q. Can my child be transported to and from a before and after school care provider?
A. Service to or from before and after school care may be provided when specific criteria are met:
1. Provider must be located in the base attendance or application draw area of the student's school
2. Seating space must be available on the bus
3. Provider must be located along an existing established school bus run
4. Must be of no additional cost to the school system
5. Must not be in the designated walk zone
6. Buses cannot enter daycare or after school care center property, which is considered private property

Q. How far can I expect my child to walk to the bus stop?
A. Elementary school students can expect to walk up to three-tenths (.3) of a mile and secondary students can walk up to five-tenths (.5) of a mile to the bus stop. Students who live within one and one-half (1 1/2) miles of the school are located in the walk zone and transportation is generally not provided.

Q. I want to request a bus stop or change a bus stop, what do I need to do?
A. To request a bus stop or change a bus stop, complete a Transportation Service Request form and e-mail it to transportation@wcpss.net and to Assistant Principal, Mr. Curtis Brower at cbrower2@wcpss.net If email is unavailable, you can send it to Wake County Public Schools Transportation, Attention: Transportation Request, 1551 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610 or drop it off at Hunter.

Q. What are the maximum one-way ride times for students riding school buses?

A. Maximum ride times are:

Elementary......................................................1 hour, 15 minutes
Secondary.......................................................1 hour, 30 minutes
Magnet Students......Thirty (30) minutes in addition to the above limits

Transportation Goal: One hour (base students); 30 minutes additional (non-base students)

Q. What is express bus service?

A. In order to lessen the ride time to Hunter G/T Magnet Elementary school, express transportation is provided. Parents are responsible for transporting students to and from the express stop. Parents should be at express stop10 minutes prior to bus arrival both morning and afternoon. Express stops for Hunter for 2009-2010 are:
Wakefield YMCA
Durant Road Middle School
Millbrook Exchange park (PM Only)
Millbrook High School

Q. What is the process to apply for transportation for students who are classified as ineligible for transportation?
A. Fill out the Transportation Service Request Form located above and submit it to the assistant principal, Mr. Curtis Brower cbrower2@wcpss.net for his approval. This form will be submitted by the assistant principal to the Transportation Department for review on a case by case basis. A written response will be sent to the requestor with the decision of the Transportation Review Committee within 10 business days of receipt of the request by the Transportation Department. Please refer to Board Policy 7105 should further clarification be needed.

Q. Can school buses travel on private streets?

A. General Statute 115C-246(b) states that unless road or other conditions shall make it inadvisable to do so, public school buses shall be so routed on state-maintained highways that the school bus, to which such pupil is assigned, shall pass within one mile of the residence of each pupil, who lives one and one half miles or more from the school to which such pupil is assigned.

Q. Who do I contact if my child's bus does not arrive?
