HUNTER ELEMENTARY MEDIA CENTER
Media Specialists: Ms. Laurie Cressman and Ms. Jane Moser
Media Assistant: Ms. Diane Moore
Hours: The Hunter Media Center is open 8:45 - 3:30, Monday - Friday. Students may check out books any day during Open Circulation times in the morning: 8:45-9:15, and any other times teachers may allow students to come to the media center. Classes are scheduled at various times during the day, but our staff will be available to assist students, teachers, and parents whenever possible during the school day.
Borrowing Policies: Kindergarten students may check out one book for one week . First and second graders may check out two books at a time, also for a week. Third - fifth grades may have 3 books at a time, and are allowed to choose a magazine to check out instead of a book. These students have a two week check out. All items may be renewed for additional weeks, if needed.
Overdue notices are sent home in Monday folders, every other week. We do not enforce library fines, but do encourage students to return items on time. Damaged and lost books should be paid for so that replacements may be purchased.
Volunteers: The Media Center can always use parent volunteer help. Please check with our parent coordinator: Ms. Carolyn Brownlow, if you are interested. Her phone number is: 848-2255.
Hunter Elementary students have participated in the NC Children's Book Award. Our school winner for the Picture Book category is: Hero Cat by Eileen Spinelli. We have just received the winners for the state award... they are: Picture book: Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watt and Junior Book: Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich by Adam Rex.
Our author visit was a great success! Robert D. San Souci came to our school, March 13-14, 2008. Mr. San Souci met with the elective classes called "Meet the Author" and visited with every classroom. An article that featured his visit can be seen in the Tuesday, March 25, 2008, News and Observer, in the Life section. Our display of his books for checkout in the Media Center, is still in demand by students and teachers! Thanks to our friends at the Harrison Library branch of the Wake County Public Library for all of their help with this visit. And, a BIG thank you to our wonderful PTA Author Visit Committee for making this a memorable event for our school!
Fourth grade classes and the 2 North Carolina electives (From Murphy to Manteo and Tarheel Tales and Travels) were treated to a special guest and presentation on April 16 and 17. Ms. Libby Bagby and her Plott hound, Lucky, gave a special program for these classes about her upcoming book: Lucky's Plott. Ms. Bagby shared the history of the Plott Hound which is the North Carolina state dog, and gave the story of Lucky who is a rescue dog. Their program was very informative and entertaining! Yo, yo, yo! (This is Lucky's special call).
